What brush should I use to apply mineral veil?
by admin on Mar.27, 2010, under Makeup Q & A
I am about to purchase Bare Escentuals mineral veil. What type of brush should I use to apply this to my face? A kabuki brush? A buffering brush? An airbrush? Also, any recommendations on the brand of the brush? Thank you.
Answer :————————
You don't want a heavy cover of mineral veil. I suggest the flawless face brush by Bare Minerals rather than the kabuki brush.
Have any mineral foundations worked for you?
by admin on Mar.03, 2010, under Makeup Q & A
I've tried mineral foundations and powders and none of them have worked so far. :/ I have lots of flat pimples that, no matter what I do, will not go away. I usually don't trust infomercials, but I'm thinking about trying Raw Minerals. So if you've ever tried it can you tell me how it worked out for you? Also, any other suggestions that have worked for you are welcomed to share. Thanks in advanced.
Answer :————————
Powder foundation works best for setting liquid foundation. It's not that great to use to cover up acne and such.
I recommend you try a concealer (Amazing Concealer is great (yes! That's a brand!) and so is Avon's concealer stick) to cover up your blemishes and then use either
1) e.l.f. mineral foundation
2) NYC mineral foundation
3) Avon loose powder mineral foundation
*They all work great, the best coverage would be NYC. It's pressed powder, even comes with a little kabuki brush! It's like $5.00, too! The only downside is it's pretty small, and after 10 or so uses, it cracks and becomes difficult to apply. I wore mine almost every day and it lasted me about 35 days!

Is it better to wear mineral powder makeup in the winter or summer?
by admin on Mar.03, 2010, under Makeup Q & A
i've noticed that in the winter my skin is more dry and that can sometimes make the powder look uneven or dry my skin out more. i do use facial moisturizer at least once a day, either in the morning or at night, sometimes both. should i use a different foundation in the winter?
Answer :————————
usually people in the winter wear a liquid foundation.
because it doesnt show dry patches and it covers well.
in the summer people feel its better to wear just powder or mineral makeup because they sweat and it will absorb the oil and sweat better than a liquid would. also in the summer your normally not dry on your face.
i hope ihelped hun! so yes its more for summer. but if you want to wear it all year round then do it!
just make sure you exfoliate or use a facial scrub to wash away the dryness and also dont forget to mosturze your face!

Shine control HELP ….? Mac blot powder on mineral powder.. ?
by admin on Mar.03, 2010, under Makeup Q & A
Okay so I use BareMinerals Matte foundation, and its really good at mattefying, but a few hours later, around my t zone you can see the shine and it starts getting super oily. Like is I touch it the foundation will come off and I can feel the oil….gross I know. I put on more foundation to cover it up, but it starts looking cakey, and I can still fell the oil….
What can I do to prevent this ?
Can I use MAC blot powder or would it be stupid, because powder on powder…?
Answer :————————
mac has this oil controlling face lotion. use that under the powder, and if for some reason you have to repowder use oil blotting sheets first. if you're in public use toilet seat covers. they work! and make sure you apply lemon juice (PURE) on your face twice a week after washing your face. and leave it on for about 15 minutes and then rinse off. it should decrease oil production(:
Mineral makeup question?
by admin on Feb.17, 2010, under Makeup Q & A
so im gonna need new makeup soon, and im currently using revlon colorstay but i want to try something new and better that isnt comodegenic. i was thinking of getting maybelline mineral power in either liquid or loose powder form, loreal mineral foundation, or L.A. minerals. the thing is,since its online i dont know much about it. I have acne prone combination/oily skin and i dont really use powder makeup. how does it compare to the clinique mineral makeup and the other ones i listed and would it last a long time if i buy the full size?
PS: i know you can get samples but it has to be at least 10 dollars to order something, so if the samples dont match at all, i dont want to have to get 4 more to see if they match, and i always have trouble getting the right shade…
Answer :————————
Revlon colorstay made me break out. Really hard to get it all off of your skin. Purest store brand is Physicians formula, but then you cant try samples!
Never tried clinique, but wow is it expensive!
I use the Hollywood formula of LA Minerals. My full size pot lasts me about 8-9 months. Yeah it's best to get samples first. But you can get free shipping if you are in the USA. Plus they send you a coupon for 10% off your first kit.
Anyways, you at least know if you have very pale skin. Then try to detemine if you are cool or warm or whatever. Helps narrow down the colors of samples you should try.
Maybe get your mom interested in ordering samples too:) Then maybe she will pay for it! LOL
The Valley girl formula has stuff in it for acne prone oily skin. Try that and their oil control powder, its really really good. I use it on my forehead and it lasts all day.
BE is bad for acne prone skin cuz of the bismuth oxychloride in it. LA doesn't use that ingredient.
Just google "bismuth oxychloride and cystic acne" and see what shows up!

Mineral Makeup: Natural Effects
by admin on Feb.02, 2010, under Womens Interest
As environmental awareness increase and more and more people everyday is starting to become aware of what they use as makeup, homeopathic and herbal products in the field have all of a sudden gained a huge market. Every company these days guarantee you of a product that is ?natural? and ?organic? from them but in reality it is rarely the case. Most of the companies just want to profit by increasing their sales, therefore they use these terms as the sale boosters because they have realized that people have become biased towards these terms. In order to tell the lie from the truth, you need to know your stuff.
A mineral makeup is truly natural, made up of ground minerals, it is a powder which varies in density and color as per the materials used. Although a mineral makeup can be somewhat opaque, but you can rest easy as it allows the natural skin radiance to show through enough to prevent the ?mask? look. The best part about mineral makeup is that it does not require any preservatives as bacteria can not survive within minerals. Completely free of any scent, the mineral makeup is perfect for oily skin, sensitive skin, rosacea, delicate skin and almost all sort f difficult skin conditions. It is because of its anti inflammatory properties and soothing feeling that it gives to the skin when applied, that the mineral makeup is perfect for everybody.
Do not allow the make up to get into your skin pours by allowing it to be smoothed into your skin, instead of this ?buffing? try to dust the makeup on. Use non latex or a flocked sponge if you find the brush dusting is not suiting well to your skin. Mineral makeup can be applied either wet or dry, depending on what you are using and when.
To hide skin discoloration and lines, use Titanium Dioxide, the second most reflective natural object after diamond. The white mineral makeup is not only a sunscreen but also has anti inflammatory properties. Be it UVA or UVB, Zinc Oxide is used by even sports men as a sunscreen around the world. Sericite can do well to cut the opacity of Titanium Dioxide when mixed with it. The mica granules also are good at oil absorption. Avoid Cornstarch if you have pimple, acne and oily skin problems because it is something that is fed upon by bacteria. Instead, use Kaolin clay for applying on oily skin as it is a good natural oil absorbing agent. If you are looking for something to tint, Iron Oxides are great at that due to their opacity.
Avoid talcum powder and fillers as much as you can as these are known to cause respiratory problems. Coal tar products like FD& C Dyes are no good either for the skin. Other materials to avoid include Bismuth Oxychloride, Ferric Ferrocyanide and of course Carmine, which is actually crushed beetles! When out in the market to buy a product, keep these facts in mind and make sure you do not end up buying a product that has too much of the substances that are to be avoided.
What Exactly is Mineral Makeup and Why is it so Special?
by admin on Feb.02, 2010, under Womens Interest
Mineral makeup is now nothing new. We see it in drug stores, specialty shops and online boutiques. The question remains however, ?what is it?? As we know, marketing companies will do anything to convince us that something is new and innovative in order to get us to buy it. But in fact, mineral makeup has existed since the 70s.
From research, the conclusion though is that mineral makeup is worth taking a look at, and worth switching over to. It?s properties, as well as its advantages make for a versatile and safe product to be putting on your skin day after day.
Basically put, mineral makeup is pure, meaning free of dyes, chemicals, perfumes and especially talc, which can clog pores. Because of it?s purity, it prevents the growth of bacteria, and because of the elements it contains, it holds other health benefits for the skin, allowing it to not only breathe, but also be protected from the sun. That?s right, titanium dioxide, which can be found in mineral makeup, is actually a natural sunscreen with an SPF of about 15 20. Zinc, which is also found in mineral makeup, naturally prevents inflammation and, to top it off, the stuff is water resistant! So you can wear it to the beach, in the kitchen, cry ? it won?t run! Finally, a makeup has come to the market that can prevent disgusting and unsightly acne, while giving a truly healthy and natural glow to a person?s face.
The usage of mineral makeup is also very versatile. Because it is so concentrated and totally pure, a little bit of the powder form can go a long way, and the more you use, the deeper and more effective the colour, unlike our traditional makeup brands that don?t seem to improve or get richer no matter how many layers we put on. When you buy mineral makeup that is say, the colour of your skin, it acts as a 3 in 1 foundation, concealer and powder. When you use more vibrant colours, you have different options. Putting it on dry will give a natural, smooth glow. Getting your brush wet and applying it to your skin will enhance the deepness of the colour, which is great for use as an eyeliner. Not only that, you can take the mineral makeup and mix it with other transparent products, such a lip gloss, nail polish, or mascara, for a perfectly coordinated look.
Some people complain about the way the mineral makeup has a drying effect on the skin. This can be a problem, especially if you are prone to those ?dry wrinkles? that appear especially around under the eyes and sides of the mouth. However, this dryness can first be combated by ensuring lots of moisture for your skin through use of a good moisturizer and getting lots of Vitamin C, which helps collagen in your skin. There are of course, lots of other ways to get the much needed moisture our face deserves (try face masks and exfoliation, among others).
Although some mineral makeup can be a dream come true to most of us, we should always beware of counterfeits and companies simply using the term ?mineral? as a sales scheme. There is no regulatory body out there that is approving what is ?mineral? and what is not when it comes to makeup, so it?s important to read the labels of the products we buy. Be weary of anything that contains dyes or parabens, even perfumes and other ingredients that totally offset the advantages that ?real? mineral makeup gives in the first place.

A few makeup/skincare questions? Ulta mineral makeup?
by admin on Feb.02, 2010, under Makeup Q & A
Please answer any of the following questions that you know about!
I'm looking into buying ulta mineral liqud foundation. I have a foundation brush that, as I am told, has to be used on liquid foundation. I have creamy foundation that is LIKE liquid but I'm wondering if Ulta Mineral Liquid Foundation is truly thin and liquid.
I am always wanting to purchase Aveeno Positively Radiant Makeup Removing Cleanser. Is this just makeup remover? Or can I use for my daily face washing?
Last question, is there are certain types of mineral makeup that you have used and really enjoy? And if you have used either the Aveeno Facewash or the Ulta makeup that I mentioned, tell me what you thought about it! Thank you so much
Answer :————————
I don't know about Ulta liquid foundation, but every ulta product I've used has been nice, but it wears off really quickly. This can be bothersome when it comes to foundation, because it makes your face look streaky.
As for the cleanser, it is wonderful! And you can use it as your daily face wash.
Bare minerals is great for there eyeshadow, and Minerals makes a good mineral foundation.
Hope this helps!
