Love handles are unsightly! They are those stubborn fatty deposits collecting at the sides of the abdomen. It is somewhat gross for a man to have love handles; worse is for a woman to have them. The first step in losing those stubborn fatty deposits is through cardio workouts. However, these cardio workouts must be performed at intervals rather than at a single pace only because more fat is burned effectively this way. Ideally cardio workouts shall begin with more intense exercises, like running for instance, and then followed up by less strenuous exercises, like brisk walking. These cardio exercises help you get rid of overall fat as well as those ugly love handles faster.
However, the cardio workouts must be further supplemented by strength and resistance exercises that increase the overall muscle mass. Why is there a need to increase muscle mass? More muscle mass translates to more fat getting burned each minute. For instance, one great exercise that develops body strength and resistance and increases muscle mass is the Pilate\’s ring exercise. This exercise does not concentrate on the abdomen alone but on the whole body, thereby increasing the heart rate, resulting in reduced fat.
Since love handles are seen at the sides of the abdomen, you also need to perform exercises that target your abdominals, particularly your oblique muscles. Crunch twist exercises, sit ups and Abs workouts are basic exercises that can help to tone and firm up those muscles.
Diet plays an important role in getting rid of those love handles fast. A healthy diet is always essential in any weight loss programs. This is bad news for the sweet-toothed and fast-foods addicts, though, because a healthy diet means less intake of sugar, sweets, fast and fried foods, and meals rich in fats.
Another thing to remember is to drink at least 6-7 glasses of water. Water does wonders to the body system, and helps you burn calories, too. During workout, you have more reason to drink every 30 minutes to keep the body fully hydrated.
