by admin on Mar.27, 2010, under Makeup Q & A
i need a new foundation for my skin but theres so many i cant decide which one is the best. my skin is kinda sensitive and i have a couple of pimples not that many but i want to cover em up n make my skin look even n natural.. what should i try?! thnks!
Answer :————————
i have very similar skin and i use loreal true match foundation.. i absolutely LOVE it for several reasons:
its about &11-$12 at drug stores
its oil free and really light (but still effective in evening out your skin tone) and so it looks 100% natural
like the name says, it matches really well with your skin tone.
they make it really easy for you to find the right shade for your skin in the stores because they seperate them into like warm tones, cool tones, etc.
i would also recommend the loreal true match concealer. it works veryyy well to cover up blemishes
How to choose make up for combination skin?
by admin on Mar.27, 2010, under Makeup Q & A
OK so i have combination skin and is now just starting to use make up. I want to know which type of products i should use that would not make my skin break out. Coz i tend to.
So like:
1. foundation
2. primer
3. face wash
4. moisturizer
5. etc.
basically, like should i not use make up that is liquid, or should i use powder make up. should i try mineral make up instead of regular. should i use oil-free make up.. etc.
thanks for your help.
Answer :————————
its really hard to say whether a foundation will break you out because everyones skin is different ! i have combination skin with acne dry cheeks and under eyes with oily tzone ! annoying ! anyway i have been through so many foundations its stupid ! anyway mineral make up is good you can get it in either liquid or powder form i get liquid as i find powder to drying for my cheeks , however the only prob i find is that because i have acne it doesnt give enough coverage for me so if you have alot of spots you will need to get a good conceler to go along with the mineral foundation ! also right now im using revlon colourstay for combination skin i prefer the formula for normal to dry skin better but once again it doesnt give the coverage that the combination one gives ! its a really good foundation good coverage not to drying , stops shine , doesnt look caked on , good range of colours ! but its a long lasting makeup and believe me it really does last and ALL long lasting makeups will break you out if your not removing All of it at night so what i do is wash my face first with soap then a face wash then get a cotton pad and use some toner or cleanser to remove the last traces of it i use a tee tree oil one to help my acne ! this works to remove all of it , also if you use moisturiser before applying make up with revlon colourstay make sure its a oil free one as the foundation is oil free so if u apply it after using a oily moisturiser it will go patchy same goes for if u use a foundation with oil use a moisturiser with oil ! gosh primer is good ! you could get a tee tree moisturiser as well ! hope i helped
Does makeup age your skin faster?
by admin on Mar.27, 2010, under Makeup Q & A
I have a friend who is only 20 but has huge crows feet when she smiles. She has acne problems so has probably worn a lot of makeup for a long time. Also I put a mineral powder under my eyes to conceal dark circles and I'm notice fine lines already. It feels dried out. I've put vaseline on it just to moisten it but does anyone have any imput on this? thanks!
Answer :————————
Yes, makeup does prematurely age your skin. But it won't have a big effect if you wash and MOISTURIZE your face before bed. Do NOT sleep with makeup ever! If your friend smiles and has crow's feet, those are laugh lines, everyone has them when they smile. (: If they're there when she's not smiling, then they're wrinkles. When you exfoliate (don't exfoliate too much, just once every 3 days or you'll ruin your face's oil balance and get really oily skin), use a honey, sugar and olive oil scrub. 3 tsp of EXTRA VIRGIN (very important that it's extra virgin because it's the only oil that won't clog your pores) olive oil, 2 tsp of honey, and some sugar. Keep this in a lidded container, it will last a while. This scrub not only removes dead skin cells, but it really hydrates your skin for those annoying winter dry times. Invest in a good, rich, concentrated face moisturizer. I'm using nutrimetics concentrated face creme. Always moisturize. It helps your makeup go on much better, and is good to keep the balance of extra sebum (oil) on your face.
Face Makeup Tips To Be A Head Turner
by admin on Mar.27, 2010, under Womens Interest
Not all women are blessed with perfect skin tone and attractive features but with some effective face make up tips most can reach closer to what they desire to become. Face make up is the best way to highlight your attractive features and cover up your facial flaws.
One needs to be familiar with the make up techniques to bring out the best in their personality. There are several brand cosmetics available in the market that when used skillfully can create wonders. Known to be the girl`s best friend, these cosmetics should be carefully selected and surely discarded on expiry. And if you want to learn the basic face make up techniques, then here are some tips that will help you get the right face make up:
Base or foundation:
Start with applying appropriate base and moisturizer on your face. Also cover ears, neck and nape portions that are visible. Use a tissue paper to wipe off the excess moisture, if any. Apply foundation dots across your face and blend it well so as to cover your blemishes and other facial flaws. Opt for oil free products that contain salicyclic acid or tea tree oil. Now take some ice cubes and quickly rub them on your skin. This will close all the pores on your face. Now dab with a tissue and apply compact powder. Make sure to select a range that matches with your complexion and hence gels well with your skin tone.
Eyes:
Select eye shadow according to your dress and day time. For evening, opt for darker shades and for bright daylight occasion go for lighter color eye shadows. You can also try some golden or silver glitter, if you are going for some evening party bash but better avoid it if you are attending something more formal.
Now carefully apply eyeliner to define your eye shape. Use kohl along your eye rims and then apply mascara on your eyelashes. It is important to note that big eyes do not require much enhancement and hence eye makeup should be kept minimal but for smaller eyes you should go for thick eye lining and also darker kohl so that the eyes look prominent.
Lips:
Apply pencil lip liner to outline your lips. It will ensure that your lipstick or gloss does not smear. Now with a lip brush apply lip color on your lips. Go for color shades that will suit your skin tone. For lasting effect, you can apply some oil free foundation on your lips before applying lipstick. After you fill in your lip with the lip color, apply some lip gloss. This will add sparkle to your lip make up. However, you can avoid gloss if you prefer a mat look for the occasion.
Blush on:
Now accentuate your features with blush on. Roll on the brush on the apt shade and gently apply it on the side of your cheeks. Try to keep it natural and hence avoid over use of blush on. Select right color shades that will suit your complexion. For instance, while pink and beige blushes will look good on fair skin, plum and bronze shades will complement darker skin tone and for olive skin tone copper, almond and warm brown shades will be the best.
Touch up:
Always remember to carry a lipstick, a lip gloss, compact powder, some tissues and a small mirror with you. You can give a quick touch up to your face makeup in case it starts wearing off. Lastly but most importantly carry yourself confidently.
Important tips:
Use good quality cosmetics that suit your skin type and skin tone, and discard expired cosmetics because their continuous use can lead to infections. For removing the make up use oil free makeup remover that does not clog the pores.
If you carefully follow the above mentioned tips, you are sure to learn about the right make up for your face. Moreover, with time and practice you will also discover other important details that will help you to customize the face make up procedures to suit your facial skin and features.
Foundation and moisturizer for sensitive skin?
by admin on Mar.03, 2010, under Makeup Q & A
Ok so I was wondering what a good foundation and moisturizer for my sensitive skin would be?
I tried Olay 7 effects, and broke out in a red rash within 2 days and it lasted 1.5 weeks.
I also tried Clean&Clear's Morning Burst Moisturizer and also i broke out in a red rash but only over my eyes, and that took almost 4 days.
I've also used Aveeno, and it makes me break out, i've used their scrub and their moisturizer and it did not end well.
As for foundation, now I use Loreal True Match in the powder, but i dont' feel like i'm getting enough coverage, so I tried Revlon's custom creations, and I got a red rash in 2 days. That was the first liquid foundation I had tried, and I was wondering if there was a liquid foundation that worked well for sensitive skin? Thank you

30 Days to Great Skin
by admin on Mar.03, 2010, under Womens Interest
Blotchy, dull, listless, craggy, aging, blemished ?
Do any of those adjectives describe your skin? Does your skin just not quite have that youthful glow it used to? Maybe you have a few too many blemishes and you are afraid to go outside of the house without your cover up.
Well hopefully after you finish reading this article you will have the knowledge and the tools to free you from your listless skin and allow you to put that cover up away.
The first thing that you need to do is reassess your eating habits. You know that old saying ?you are what you eat?? Well it?s kind of true. What you eat has a dramatic impact upon your overall body functioning ? if you are taking in a lot of acidic and salty foods chances are you are damaging your skin. If you are not getting the right kinds and amounts of minerals and vitamins you are definitely doing more harm to your skin than good. Taking multi vitamins and other supplements is a good way to get started, but our bodies flush out the majority of vitamins taken this way.
Nothing can replace good old fashioned home cooked meals. Raw veggies and fruits will do your body much more good than any multi vitamin ever will. If you are having problems with your skin increase your consumption of Folic acid (spinach is a great source for this) and omega acids (salmon and tuna are loaded with omega 6). Increasing your consumption of these two types of food alone will have a dramatic impact upon your skin quality in 30 days or less.
This next tip is going to surprise some people. If you want better skin get out in the sun, or spend some time in a tanning salon! The sun has gotten a bad rap over the past decade or so, some of it is justified, but the anti sun crusade has gone way too far. The sun is not your enemy. There is a reason why most plants need to bathe in the sun to survive. Those sun rays are life giving! If you have skin problems there is a very good chance you have a vitamin D deficiency. Do you know what the greatest source of vitamin D is?
You guessed it: The sun.
The trick here is to not over expose yourself to the sun. When you go out and sun bathe put on a good lotion that will help you absorb the good benefits of the sun while blocking out some of the damaging UV rays and helping your skin re nourish itself with vitamins and moisture that gets depleted by sun exposure. Any good tanning salon will sell lotions that are designed for this, yes they are a little bit on the expensive side, but they are well worth the price and should last for a longtime (unless you are tanning every day which would be way too much!)
With these two tips alone ? Changing your diet and increasing your exposure to the positive benefits of the sun, you will rejuvenate your skin and look 10 years younger in just a handful of weeks.
Healthy Eating Healthy Skin
by admin on Mar.03, 2010, under Womens Interest
Healthy eating, maintaining a healthy weight, and having great skin all go hand in hand. Everything builds off of your diet. If you are not eating right you will not have healthy skin, it just is not possible. Okay if you are a teenager you might be able to pull it off, but those unhealthy eating habits you develop as a teen will creep up on you in your mid twenties to thirties.
Fortunately it is never too late to change your diet and shave 10 years worth of damage off of your skin. The first thing I want to talk about is your water intake. If you are like most people you do not drink nearly enough pure water. Let me just throw some quick numbers at you:
Muscle is about 75 water.
Blood is about 95 water.
Bone is about 45 water
Add it all together and over half of the human body is comprised of water! It is an essential element for every nook and cranny of our bodies. So why do we deprive ourselves of this crucial element? If you do nothing else but up your water intake you will have more energy on a daily basis, your skin will take on a healthy glow, your thinking and other cognitive skills will improve, your internal organs will function at a much more efficient rate, and you will increase your life expectancy.
Now with all of those benefits don?t you think you should just go ahead and drink a couple more glasses of water per day?
The next thing I want to talk about is processed foods, microwave meals, and fast foods. This is the trifecta of doom for anyone trying to improve the quality of their skin. Believe me I understand that with a crazy hectic schedule it can be hard to actually make a healthy meal. What I would suggest is that you set a goal for yourself to make a good home cooked meal at least 3 times per week. It does not have to be anything to complicated ? Grilled or baked chicken with a nice spinach salad is easy to make, does not require a lot of effort or time and is loaded with nutrients that our skin craves. In fact doing nothing but drinking more water and upping your intake of spinach will have a tremendous impact upon the quality of your skin.
Protein and fish Your diet is not complete and you will never have the beautiful skin you crave if you do not take in enough protein or eat enough fish. Protein is a major building block of our bodies, especially our muscles. Increasing your lean muscle mass may not contribute tremendously to your overall skin quality, but it will give you a long, lean and really sexy look that will cause jaws to drop when you walk by.
Fish is loaded with omega 6 which is an essential element (and one which most people are deficient in) for maintaining healthy skin. If you want to have beautiful skin try to incorporate a serving of fish into at least 3 of your meals every week. This will not only take care of your omega 6 requirement, but fish is also very low in bad fats and will give you plenty of good protein.
Following these tips alone and doing nothing else will get you the greatest skin of your lifetime.

Skin Care FAQs
Q. How does Botox really work? And is it safe?
A. Botox helps relax the face muscles, giving a less stressed and worried look. Botox as a cosmetic treatment is a purified protein that?s administered in very small doses via injection in order to temporarily improves the appearance of frown lines between the eyebrows in people. Candidates for Botox treatments are adults aged 18 to 65.
Botox has been used therapeutically for nearly 20 years to treat a variety of medical conditions in more than 75 countries. It?s one of the most widely researched medicines worldwide, and as a cosmetic enhancer is used in extremely small doses. In some cases, side effects after Botox injection include headache, nausea, temporary eyelid droop, respiratory infection and ?flu? syndrome.
Frown lines aren?t caused by sun damage or skin breakdown, but rather by overactive facial muscles. When these facial muscles contract, the eyebrows are drawn together. Over time, as skin becomes less elastic, repeated frowning can result in moderate to severe lines between the brows. Botox works to reverse this.
Facial fillers, on the other hand, mask wrinkles by adding volume around the muscles through injected materials. Botox, however, blocks the chemicals that cause facial muscles to contract, thereby relaxing them. It is the only product that affects the muscles which produce wrinkles.
Botox is arguably the most common popular procedure performed by plastic surgeons, and most patients are very happy with the results.
Q. What is Juvederm, and how does it work?
A. Juvederm is a smooth gel filler that plastic surgeons inject underneath the skin in order to instantly smooth out wrinkles, lines and folds. It?s derived from hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural complex sugar that is found in all living cells and is a major component of the skin?s connective tissue matrix. HA is one of the most common materials used for temporary reduction of wrinkles, lines and sagging skin, and it produces an instant, smooth, and completely natural looking effect.
Wrinkles and facial folds occur over time as skin components break down following exposure to the sun and other elements. The skin loses its structure and volume; lines and wrinkles are the result.
Juvederm is manufactured by Allergan, Inc., and its effects generally last for six months, sometimes longer. For best results, do your homework ahead of time, and make sure your procedure is done only by a board certified plastic surgeon.
Q. What?s the difference between Juvederm and Prevelle? Don?t they do the same thing?
A. Yes and no. Both are effective wrinkle removers that are injected into the skin, and both use hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural complex sugar found in all living cells, including the skin. However, Prevelle Silk also contains lidocaine, which makes the treatment less painful. Both injectables offer immediate, natural looking results, with minimal post procedure irritation and little or no down time.
Q. Is ?laser resurfacing? the same as a ?laser peel??
A. Yes. Both terms are used to refer to a procedure that smoothes the facial skin by using a laser to ?refinish? damaged areas and shrink fine wrinkles. Laser skin treatments also correct areas of uneven pigmentation, resulting in a fresh, smoother complexion.
Laser skin treatment involves a beam of laser energy used to vaporize the upper layers of damaged skin with extreme precision. As new cells form during the healing process, the result is smoother, tighter and younger looking skin. If the imperfections are deep, your plastic surgeon may recommend that your procedure be performed in two or more stages. To maintain results post procedure, use sun protection and a skin care regimen recommended by your doctor.
Good candidates for laser resurfacing are men and women who have: fine lines, especially around the eyes; vertical lines around the mouth; facial scars caused by acne, accident or injury; lines on the cheeks due to sun damage; or areas of uneven pigmentation, such as ?age spots.?
Laser skin resurfacing is not always a good choice for people who have skin that is olive, brown or black; people who are prone to abnormal (keloid like) scarring; have taken the drug Accutane during the past 18 months; or who have an active skin infection.
Q. Do I have any other skin care options besides laser resurfacing?
A. Of course. Laser skin resurfacing provides the greatest precision, the deepest results and the most predictable outcome, but it?s not the only choice for skin resurfacing. Many other options exist including creams, chemical peels and quick treatments.
At Dr. Juan Brou?s Medical Spa in Oklahoma City, the following aesthetic treatments are commonly used:
Retin A: A prescription skin refinishing treatment that involves regular applications of a vitamin A enriched cream.
Chemical Peels: Medically safe acids are applied to the face, neck and chest to burn off top, tired looking layers of skin. The acids used in peels also come in varying strengths in prescription strength facial washes and creams. Glycolic acid, TCA Acid and Salicylic acid peels are available.
Dermabrasion: In office treatment with no downtime. A motorized brush removes the surface layer of skin.
