Seven Surprising Facts About Pepper Spray
by admin on Feb.27, 2010, under Womens Interest
Pepper spray is an excellent choice for self defense, no matter who you are. It is inexpensive, effective, and legal to carry. Though it s an easy to use product, there are some interesting facts that you may not know about the defense spray you re carrying. Here are a few surprising facts:
The inspiration for pepper spray dates back thousands of years. Though in its current form is certainly a modern invention, in ancient times, bags filled with pepper and spices were commonly thrown at enemies, especially in Asia. In fact, throwing ground peppers in the face of criminals was a common practice in ancient Japan, where the practice was actually used as a form of punishment.
Pepper spray can be used against animals, too. There are specially formulated and larger sized sprays that can be used specifically against bears, mountain lions, dogs, and nearly any other animal that may be attacking you. In fact, all U.S. Postal Service carriers have spray to use as protection against dog attacks. This versatile spray is useful against both human and animal attacks.
It is a lot hotter than peppers. The hotness of both rated in SHUs, or Scoville Heat Units. The typical bell pepper rates close to zero on this scale. A jalapeno pepper is about 5000 SHU, and a habanero about 300,000. Typical sprays rate at about 2 million SHU, and some even approach 3 million SHU. In other words, they pack quite a powerful punch, incomparable to peppers in their natural form, when it comes to their burning effect.
The effects last nearly half an hour. If you\’ve never seen anyone get sprayed in the face with it, you ll be surprised at how fast they go down and how long they stay down. The effects are nearly immediate, and a good blast will immobilize anyone for about 15 to 30 minutes.
Pepper spray can be disguised. If you don\’t like the idea of carrying a spray canister everywhere with you, why not pick a spray pen instead? The canisters come disguised as almost anything, including a pen or cell phone, to make you more comfortable carrying them.
Pepper spray can help catch the perpetrator. Pepper spray isn\’t just for scaring criminals away or making them stop their attack. Today, many sprays include invisible UV dye. Your attacker won\’t know he s marked until he s caught and the police put him under a blacklight. Then, the effects of the dye will become readily apparent. This is a very useful tool in making a positive identification.
Pepper spray is not tear gas. They often get grouped together, but they re not the same thing. Although early forms of pepper spray, particularly the Mace brand name, did contain the same chemicals as tear gas, today they are completely different products formulated for different uses. Tear gas is formulated for crowd control type uses, while pepper spray is designed to be effective against one person or a small group.

Perfume The Best Places to Spray
by admin on Feb.02, 2010, under Womens Interest
Applying perfume has many purposes; it can be to smell better, attract a mate or to mask something an unpleasant smell. It is so widely used that the perfume business is growing bigger every day. Celebrities are endorsing brands and attaching their names to it. It is an ever expanding empire that will continue to soar as long as people can smell.
Perfume was first invented to mask unwanted smells, and it has been around since the days of Cleopatra. Back then, people used to use natural herbs and spices to smell nice such as vanilla beans and coconut. With climates in some countries being as hot as they were and without the help of deodorant, men and women were left to their own devices and invented ways to smell nice. The idea caught on and people began adding smells to their skin to smell better.
Perfume has also been widely associated with attracting a mate. When a couple go out on a date, adding perfume is a way to finalize the look. The make up has been done, perfect outfit put on and a nice breeze of perfume is essential to feeling sexy and pretty. Often time`s girls will spray perfume on before they head out to bars to meet men. Some bathrooms even offer perfume machines in case you forgot to put perfume before you left the house.
Some people are afraid that if they are not wearing perfume that they will not be able to attract a partner. It can sometimes be a certain smell that attracts or detours a man away from a woman. Either he likes the smell or is frightened by it. Either way it might be best to pick a popular selling perfume if used for the intention of mate selecting.
Perfume can be sprayed in many areas. Some women spray it over their hair, although it can get in the eyes which may hurt and usually styling products in the hair smell nice already. Another place to spray perfume is on the neck. This place is popular because when a women gets close to a men he can smell the scent, the only down side is if he attempts to kiss the neck, in which case he might be turned off by the taste.
Dabbing perfume on the wrist has also been a popular place to add some scents. As you move your arms around the scent can trickle out and create a cloud of perfume as you walk. Some people also spray it on the outside of their clothes such as on tops and pants. This idea is smart because you don`t have to apply it right to the skin.
While anyplace is a good place to spray some perfume, there are places that are better than others. If perfume spraying is ahead of a date or romantic experience, it might be best to spray it in places that will not be kissed, if it is on just for fun, then spraying it wherever is another option as well. If you think you might be returning a piece of clothing or if you are borrowing someone`s clothes with or without permission, you might not want to spray it on clothes unless you plan on washing them before you give them back. Finding the perfect spots to add perfume is up to the person themselves.
Pepper Spray 101 What a Woman Needs to Know About Pepper Spray and Self Defense!!!!
by admin on Feb.02, 2010, under Womens Interest
Many women wonder how to protect themselves against unwanted situations in which just a little pepper spray could in some instances save their lives.
I put together this article to explain what a pepper spray is, and what is made out of, and how it can protect any woman that needs that extra assurance to make sure they are better protected to an unpleasant encounter!
Pepper spray, also known as OC spray (from Oleoresin Capsicum ), OC gas, and capsicum spray, is a lachrymatory agent (a chemical compound that irritates the eyes to cause tears, pain, and even temporary blindness) that is used in riot control, crowd control, and personal self defense, including defense against dogs and bears.
The active ingredient in pepper spray is capsaicin, which is a chemical derived from the fruit of plants in the Capsicum genus, including chilis. Extraction of oleoresin capsicum from peppers involves finely ground capsicum, from which capsaicin is extracted in an organic solvent such as ethanol.
The solvent is then evaporated, and the remaining waxlike resin is the oleoresin capsicum. An emulsifier such as propylene glycol is used to suspend the OC in water, and pressurized to make it aerosol in pepper spray. The high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method is used to measure the amount of capsaicin within pepper sprays. Scoville Heat Units (SHU) are used to measure the concentration or heat of pepper spray.
Oleoresin capsicum also is used in foods where the flavor and piquancy are desired without visible pepper specks, or to standardize the Scoville units.[citation needed]
A synthetic analogue of capsaicin, pelargonic acid vanillylamide (desmethyldihydrocapsaicin), is used in another version of pepper spray known as PAVA spray which is used in the United Kingdom. Another synthetic counterpart of pepper spray, pelargonic acid morpholide, was developed and is widely used in Russia. Its effectiveness compared to natural pepper spray is unclear.
Pepper spray typically comes in canisters, which are often small enough to be carried or concealed in a pocket or purse. Pepper spray can also be bought concealed in items such as rings. There are also pepper spray projectiles available, which can be fired from a paintball gun. It has been used for years against demonstrators.
I found this great line of pepper sprays offered by Pro Safety Technologies. My first recommendations is the Pepper Shot.
Pepper Shot? is a 10 pepper spray rated at 2 million scoville heat units and made with a very fine grain that is more effective than the coarser grains of most other pepper sprays. In addition to causing an attacker pain, Pepper Shot swells the mucous membranes, which makes breathing difficult, and swells the veins in the eyes, causing the eyes to close. These effects last 20 30 minutes and cause no permanent damage. All sprays have locking actuators for extra safety.
At under 10 bucks you cannot go wrong, I would stock up and give some to your family and friends, especially at this price! Definitely worth it!

This stuff is the real deal. I picked up the mini can while in New York recently, and it's the only hair spray I'll use now. It really does give fantastic volume, doesn't make hair too crunchy, and I can't even think of what it smells like – which can only be a good thing.
It's especially a lifesaver if you get on a plane with clean but un-styled hair, and want to look a bit more lively and less lank when you land and head straight to meetings. Just flip, spray, and you've got a look that's not Texas-big, but full and pretty.
