Hair Extensions for Beginners

by admin on Mar.27, 2010, under Women's Health

Hair extensions for beginners

Hair extensions can make you look like you have long, beautiful hair. They can also provide dramatic colors to otherwise dull looking hair. However, before you decide to opt for hair extensions here is a guide on selection, tips and risks involved.

Selecting the extensions

First of all, make sure to select an appropriate color of hair extensions. They must ideally match your hair color or be at least a shade as close as possible. Ofcourse, there are exceptions to this rule. Sometimes, you might want a bolder look in which case vibrant colored hair extensions are also available. This way, you can have a dramatic look to your hair. Other than color, you also need to select only the highest grade and quality of hair extensions as these last very long and do not damage easily.

Different techniques used

When it comes to application of hair extensions different techniques are in use. Glues can be used to attach extensions to your hair while non-glue techniques can also be used. There are also weft techniques of applying extensions in which case tracks are used onto which the extensions get attached. Then these wefts are attached to the sections of hair as needed. There are also clip-on extensions which are by far the easiest to use as you can attach these yourself. These extensions, as the name suggests, come with clips using which you can attach them to your hair.

Risks associated with hair extensions

Most hair extension procedures when done professionally in a salon are relatively risk free. However, certain precautions need to be taken when undergoing a hair extension procedure. For instance, proper aftercare and conditioning is critical as is regular washing of the hair. You also need to know that only clip types of extensions can be applied on your own and for all other types of extensions professional assistance is mandatory. You must also stay away from too much heat as it damages the extensions. So that means excessive usage of curling irons or blowdryers.

Pros and cons of using extensions

Just as anything else in life with hair extensions too there are the good and bad sides to it. Let

by admin on Mar.27, 2010, under Makeup Q & A

Normally, I just love the way Jenny Humphrey's (Taylor Momsen) makeup is done. The only problem I have is that I am not sure what color is used in this picture. I know they mixed in black eyeshadow but what is the other color?

http://s272.photobucket.com/albums/jj199/Chloe101_06/?action=view&current=m205989418.jpg
Answer :————————
It looks like they used a dark gold all over the lid, then used a black in the crease and winged it out a little. It also looks like they used a color slightly darker than the gold and applied it in the inner corner of the lids. Shes also wearing black mascara and what looks to be dark brown eyeliner thats smudge on the bottom and neat on the top.
Hope this helped!!

Polymer Clay Components

by admin on Mar.27, 2010, under Womens Interest

Polymer clay is a pliable and merging material based on polymer polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The texture and properties of polymer resembles mineral clay. It is used mostly by artists, hobbyists and children, for their artworks.

Polymer clay consists of fine particles of PVC suspended in plasticizer. It is a very versatile component that comes in a number of colors. The clay?s softness lets you use different techniques from textile arts, sculpture and glassworks. Hobbyists can form it without any time limit because it does not dry out. There are certain uses and processes involved in making polymer clay artworks.

Polymer clay can cover wooden boxes, mirrors, frames and table wares, especially in jewelry. It can also be used in making beads, bracelets, pendants, and necklaces as well as small sculptures and buttons. There are techniques that give polymer clay an appearance of a jade, granite, turquoise, ivory and amber. You can make many possible pieces of shapes and sizes, along with many other variations. It is not suitable for objects that can come in close contact with foods.

Polymer clay is widely available in local craft and art supply stores. Some outlets want it in bulk ordering or in large quantities. Others have it via mail order. Most manufacturers have brand selections due to its softness, color and strength.

It is often best molded using your hands. Equipment like oven and other molders are used for special effects and designs.

Use a wax paper or smooth surfaces like glass or marble to work with the clay. Rough surfaces may damage the clay.

If you wish to make clay beads, use a piercing tool to bore holes for stringing. If you have a wooden skewer or long sewing needle, it will be much better.

An ordinary kitchen knife will be good in cutting the clay for any purpose. To color, you may use paintbrushes and acrylic paints. Other things you may need are aluminum soda cans, toothpicks, thermometers and craft wire.

There are books that teach ways on using polymer clays. These are instructional materials and pamphlets that can help you with your project. You can read on them for starters.

There are basic techniques to start off, like conditioning, skinner blending, color mixing, curing and sanding, finishing, molds, stamps, sculpting, as well as faux, transfers, surface treatments and bead making.

Do an easy project to begin with, then work on more complex projects as you get more familiar with techniques. Clean and dry well your hands. Lay down the clay on a glass or cutting board and knead until it becomes soft and smooth. Shape the clay as desired.

Use a wire frame for support if needed. Try to make beads by rolling a ball on your palms and carefully poking it through the middle with the use of a needle.

Beads are stringed on a wire stretched between two soda cans. This will keep it from getting flat while baking. Water may be needed in the cans for stability. Bake the polymer clay for about 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the manufacturer?s recommendations on thickness and temperature. An oven thermometer can be used to prevent under or over baking.

Lastly, allow cooling before painting or sanding the clay.

Polymer clay became a popular hobby by most artistic minds nowadays. It is a good way of unleashing your creativity.

The Changing Beauty In Jewelry

by admin on Mar.27, 2010, under Womens Interest

Jewelry has always fascinated man since time immemorial. Originally the word jewelry comes from the French word joule. In the 13ht century different items of ornamentation was called jewelry, namely ear rings, necklaces armlets and others. Not only has jewelry been a status symbol for man it has been the main source of economic progress. In India, the value of gold is associated with the fate of the bride to be. The more gold a bride`s father has the better are the prospects of getting the daughter married to a good groom.

In the olden days gold was the valid alternative to currency. During the barter system things were exchanged with gold. Gold then was available in large quantities and the mining costs were not that great. In the East both men and women wore ornaments.

Gold definitely has a therapeutic effect. It is used for the treatment of Tuberculosis. This is why gold jewelry was worn by people to enable them to breathe in the purified air. Nose studs especially in India, is specifically worn by ladies even today to inhale healthy air.

Jewelry was also used in witchcraft earlier. Gold amulets and necklaces were worn by superstitious people in order to ward off evil forces. Jewelry was even worn to bring people together. Dwindling relations were recovered with the help of jewelry too. Along with the role of decoration jewelry also was used to fasten clothes and clip one`s hair.

The definite traits of the jewelry of different countries have come about because of the various materials available there. Obviously the material which was mostly available constituted the main source of jewelry.

The Cro Magnons who came before the Homo sapiens, made the first jewelry ever about forty thousand years back. With no machines or scientific knowledge they made the ornaments out of stones, wood and bones of animals. A few centuries later natural flowers became the jewelry items for women. In fact even to day women wear ornaments made only out of flowers for their wedding.

The jewelry at the initial stages was well crafted and was strung with the help of the hair from the animals. The horse tail was a useful means of fastening the fragments of jewelry to give it a shape. Excavations show that the clasps made of animal bones were used to hold pieces of clothing together. Of course we can we forget the mammoth that walked the surface of the earth. The tusks then too were an important material for jewelry.

Jewelry took on a more polished form about five thousand years back. It was the Egyptians who molded the lustrous gold into various shapes of adornment. The Pharaohs wore gold jewelry extensively because it was easily available there. Not just gold but precious gems were also embedded into the ornaments. The Red sea was the endless source of precious stones of various colors. The king`s scepter and the head gear too were made of a combination of the metal and the gems. The designs were rather straight and lined. This was a contrast to the ornaments that the Mesopotamians wore. They had a fascination for natural designs like vines, creepers and leaves.

Greece and Rome were the two countries who wore the maximum jewelry in their everyday life, for a long time. And as both Kingdoms extended over vast areas, it made easy for them to search for raw materials. Bronze, copper were also used to make decorative items.

Wooden ornaments were also used but for a short time because of their ephemeral nature. The Italians were known for using ornaments with perfume stored in them. Later the use of baked mud too became a stylish and cheap material for jewelry, during the Harappa and Mohenjo Daro civilizations.

Don t Have That Face Lift Yet! Anti Aging Skin Care: A Plastic Surgeon s Advice

by admin on Mar.03, 2010, under Womens Interest

More effective anti aging skin care treatments are available than ever before. Each treatment has its pros and cons. With the right skin care treatment; you can maintain a youthful appearance and a healthy complexion at any age.
Here is a list of skin treatments that are available so you can pick the right one for you.
Skin Care FAQs

Q. How does Botox really work? And is it safe?

A. Botox helps relax the face muscles, giving a less stressed and worried look. Botox as a cosmetic treatment is a purified protein that?s administered in very small doses via injection in order to temporarily improves the appearance of frown lines between the eyebrows in people. Candidates for Botox treatments are adults aged 18 to 65.

Botox has been used therapeutically for nearly 20 years to treat a variety of medical conditions in more than 75 countries. It?s one of the most widely researched medicines worldwide, and as a cosmetic enhancer is used in extremely small doses. In some cases, side effects after Botox injection include headache, nausea, temporary eyelid droop, respiratory infection and ?flu? syndrome.

Frown lines aren?t caused by sun damage or skin breakdown, but rather by overactive facial muscles. When these facial muscles contract, the eyebrows are drawn together. Over time, as skin becomes less elastic, repeated frowning can result in moderate to severe lines between the brows. Botox works to reverse this.

Facial fillers, on the other hand, mask wrinkles by adding volume around the muscles through injected materials. Botox, however, blocks the chemicals that cause facial muscles to contract, thereby relaxing them. It is the only product that affects the muscles which produce wrinkles.
Botox is arguably the most common popular procedure performed by plastic surgeons, and most patients are very happy with the results.

Q. What is Juvederm, and how does it work?
A. Juvederm is a smooth gel filler that plastic surgeons inject underneath the skin in order to instantly smooth out wrinkles, lines and folds. It?s derived from hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural complex sugar that is found in all living cells and is a major component of the skin?s connective tissue matrix. HA is one of the most common materials used for temporary reduction of wrinkles, lines and sagging skin, and it produces an instant, smooth, and completely natural looking effect.

Wrinkles and facial folds occur over time as skin components break down following exposure to the sun and other elements. The skin loses its structure and volume; lines and wrinkles are the result.

Juvederm is manufactured by Allergan, Inc., and its effects generally last for six months, sometimes longer. For best results, do your homework ahead of time, and make sure your procedure is done only by a board certified plastic surgeon.

Q. What?s the difference between Juvederm and Prevelle? Don?t they do the same thing?
A. Yes and no. Both are effective wrinkle removers that are injected into the skin, and both use hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural complex sugar found in all living cells, including the skin. However, Prevelle Silk also contains lidocaine, which makes the treatment less painful. Both injectables offer immediate, natural looking results, with minimal post procedure irritation and little or no down time.

Q. Is ?laser resurfacing? the same as a ?laser peel??
A. Yes. Both terms are used to refer to a procedure that smoothes the facial skin by using a laser to ?refinish? damaged areas and shrink fine wrinkles. Laser skin treatments also correct areas of uneven pigmentation, resulting in a fresh, smoother complexion.

Laser skin treatment involves a beam of laser energy used to vaporize the upper layers of damaged skin with extreme precision. As new cells form during the healing process, the result is smoother, tighter and younger looking skin. If the imperfections are deep, your plastic surgeon may recommend that your procedure be performed in two or more stages. To maintain results post procedure, use sun protection and a skin care regimen recommended by your doctor.

Good candidates for laser resurfacing are men and women who have: fine lines, especially around the eyes; vertical lines around the mouth; facial scars caused by acne, accident or injury; lines on the cheeks due to sun damage; or areas of uneven pigmentation, such as ?age spots.?

Laser skin resurfacing is not always a good choice for people who have skin that is olive, brown or black; people who are prone to abnormal (keloid like) scarring; have taken the drug Accutane during the past 18 months; or who have an active skin infection.

Q. Do I have any other skin care options besides laser resurfacing?
A. Of course. Laser skin resurfacing provides the greatest precision, the deepest results and the most predictable outcome, but it?s not the only choice for skin resurfacing. Many other options exist including creams, chemical peels and quick treatments.

At Dr. Juan Brou?s Medical Spa in Oklahoma City, the following aesthetic treatments are commonly used:

Retin A: A prescription skin refinishing treatment that involves regular applications of a vitamin A enriched cream.
Chemical Peels: Medically safe acids are applied to the face, neck and chest to burn off top, tired looking layers of skin. The acids used in peels also come in varying strengths in prescription strength facial washes and creams. Glycolic acid, TCA Acid and Salicylic acid peels are available.

Dermabrasion: In office treatment with no downtime. A motorized brush removes the surface layer of skin.
